LLI Design completed a total interior, architectural and lighting design for this first floor apartment in London’s Belgravia.
The brief was to create a stunning comfortable home with contemporary furniture pieces within the setting of a Grade II* Listed building and all of the period features that it brings.
It’s major attributes, apart from its location, were it’s high ceilings (being almost 4m high in places) and classical proportions, typical of buildings of this period. Although this splendour had been lost over the years, with dropped ceilings and sub divided rooms. LLI Design were tasked with bringing back the sense of grandeur that a property like this would have originally commanded and to create a new comfortable home for the clients.
The reception room was reinstated as one grand room, retaining and repairing the original period cornice, panel moulding and dado rail where required and manufacturing new sections to match the existing as necessary.
The bespoke open plan joinery kitchen was placed to one side of the reception room but was hidden from view when not in use by way of pocket doors, when the doors of the kitchen were closed the unit looked like a joinery piece, seamlessly connecting with the rest of the reception room.
As part of the project LLI Design negotiated a complex Licence to Alter with Grosvenor Estates; and sought and were awarded listed building consent from Westminster planning authority.
