A bold reimagining of an Edwardian era arts and crafts villa, incorporating eclectic detailing, individual styling and a bold colour palette to create a unique home.
LLI Design completely redesigned and re-imagined this much loved but tired double fronted Edwardian Arts and Crafts villa in Belize Park, North London.
This spacious 3 storey home hadn’t been renovated for many years and required a full interior design, interior architecture, architectural, and lighting design scheme in order to create a modern home fit for family life.
The new owners wanted to keep and enhance the warm welcoming atmosphere of the existing house, maintaining the overall period feel of the property whilst adopting a more contemporary practical aesthetic suited for 21st century living.
The new owners wanted to keep and enhance the warm welcoming atmosphere of the existing house, maintaining the overall period feel of the property whilst adopting a more contemporary practical aesthetic suited for 21st century living.
One of the house’s many stand out features was the light filled rooms, created by the generous bay windows which flooded the house with natural light, this along with the high lofty ceilings gave the house a wonderful sense of lightness and airiness.
The brief was to build on this and add an aesthetic full of energy and colour, creating an eclectic home that reflected the clients’ tastes.
To this end we completely re-configured the layout, improving the flow and creating cohesive spaces, we further increased the sense of light and space throughout by the addition of steel framed Crittall glass partitions and doors, which allowed light from the bay windows to spill into the adjacent rooms.
Original features such as ornate ceiling covings, deep skirtings, dado and picture rails along with period fireplaces and stained glass feature elements were maintained and where missing or damaged were replaced or painstakingly restored.
A bold aesthetic of contemporary and mid century furniture pieces with strong lines in bold jewel colours layered with tactile fabrics was specified.
LLI Design designed bespoke joinery throughout including the kitchen and dressing room to fulfil the practical and aesthetic needs of the clients, this along with the clients’ existing artworks and treasures were incorporated to produce a confident bright aesthetic, creating a characterful, fun and inspiring family home which is perfect for both entertaining and relaxing.
